And I imagine the quality of the strings will only improve as I use them more and learn how to effectively "tweak" the sounds. There is, however, no 'col legno' in the library so if you really need it, you might want to consider another product.Įven 'straight out of the box', the strings sound far better than the Sibelius library or Garritan Personal Orchestra (which I also use).and it should, given its $1000.00 price tag. It works well in Sibelius using the sound set from Trills and staccato marks in the score all automatically trigger the appropriate sound, as do "pizz", "trem", etc. I've only been using LA Strings for a few weeks so my opinion is still mainly based on "first impressions". Also, I too loved the sound of the online demos, particularly "She Was a Fair Lass" by Colin O'Malley (absolutely beautiful). Several composers at the Screen Composers Guild of Canada recommended LA Strings, which greatly influenced my decision when I was recently in the market for a string library. You can even use all of them together, ie SO with Strings and Brass, but then you have to follow Jon Loving's instructions carefully or you will get strange results (Sibelius gets a little confused exactly what patch to use). For Strings, Woodwinds and Brass there are soundsets to integrate them with Sibelius. There are Hollywood Brass and Orchestral Woodwinds too, by the way, and they are working on Hollywood Percussion. The drawback is that you need a super powerful computer to properly run the samples (with at least 12 GB of RAM and preferably more, solid state disks, etc) also it is significantly more expensive, and you only have a strings section.

Accordingly it is fantastic to get that big and lush strings sound that you can hear in movie soundtracks. Hollywood Strings was released much more recently, and they applied all modern technologies to get as big and realistic of a string sound as possible, including the possiblity of varying the degree of vibrato and velocity layers at the same time. Now it's available for $ 500 (with discount) and with modern computer technology it can run on a powerful laptop. When it was released, it was well over $5,000 and required multiple computers at the time. Hollywood Strings are magnificent - Eastwest's Symphonic Orchestra is excellent, but has been around for quite a few years. But the Symphonic Orchestra already does so much it might just be overkill.

I'm serious considering upgrading to all the Hollywood collections to replace the current EW Symphonic Orchestra I already have, so if anyone has tried these libraries I'd be happy to hear about them. What about East West Hollywood Strings? That can do practically anything. 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Peter Roos, 19 Jan 10:09PM 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Francois Harel, 19 Jan 06:54PM 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Peter Roos, 17 Jan 05:03PM 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Robert Lypka, 17 Jan 04:09PM 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Derek Bourgeois, 17 Jan 09:28AM 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Pip Williams, 17 Jan 08:29AM 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Francois Harel, 17 Jan 03:24AM 7.1: Feedback on LA Scoring Strings - Francois Harel, 17 Jan 03:09AM
